Hours & Information

Library
Hours:
8 AM- 3 PM
Any
student may come to the library during these hours as long as they have teacher
permission. A Library Pass,
tells us students have teacher permission to go to the library.
Each classroom has 4 library passes.
NO MORE THAN 4 students may come at one time from a class without adult accompaniment,
unless pre-arranged with the librarian. Students must sign in and out upon
entering and leaving the library when visiting without a teacher,.
All library visitors should leave the
library in the same or better condition than they found it.
This includes the stacks, our cozy sitting areas and the Glass Class.
Class Library Time
Once every six days, time is
scheduled for classroom library visits. This time has been set
aside for library skills lessons, book selection, and silent independent
reading. While visiting the
library visitors should be courteously quiet (use a one inch voice), so others
can read and study.
If a class needs to be noisy or do group work, teachers can use the Glass
Class, which has easy access to books and computers, but blocks noise when the
doors are closed.
Computer
Usage
- Teachers
may sign up to use some or all of the computers in the Library with their
class. The sign-up sheet is at the the Library desk on the green clip board.
-
Students may come independently to use the computers if they have an
Internet Pass. Classes that
have signed out the computers will have preference over students coming
independently on passes .
- No
Games are to be played on the computers in the Library.
They are for research projects and assignments only.
Internet Usage
Students must have a signed
pass from their teacher to use the
Internet. In order to have effective and safe internet
usage, students and teachers are requested to take the following steps. If
possible the pass should state
the specific sites, which the student is allowed to visit. If the student needs to
search on their own, the specific subject must be noted on the pass. Students must show
their Internet pass to the librarian when they sign
in, who will help direct and monitor their search.
Unsupervised “net surfing” is not permitted. (no Yahoo or Google). Students
should use only the
sites on the library links website when they are using a library computer
without homeroom teacher supervision . These databases, websites and search
engines are a tremendous resource
and are the only sites students are allowed to "surf" while in the
library without a teacher. With one day's notice, the library staff will help
you by
finding helpful sites and posting them for you. Just ask!

Suggestions
We
welcome suggestions on ways to make the Library more helpful to our teachers and
students. Let us know if you have
suggestions. Students, staff and parents are invited to use the WISH LIST,
found on the tool bar at the head of this page, to suggest materials that
deserve a place on the shelves at REED Library!
We use wish lists requests when making purchases for our collection.
